Condition
Good/Fair, with half-inch circular stain in upper left quadrant, some pinhole losses, especially to center and edges, some small restored tears to edges, especially right edge and bottom edge, some restoration to verso, especially along center line and scattered spots of restoration to verso all over, pin holes to corners, some thinning to paper in scattered patches

Popham, "Old Master Drawings" volume I, 1926, p. 23, pl. 31, translates the inscription as "This is a hunt done from the life of Master Bernard...lady Mary the Emperor's sister sits on horseback...the other is her brother the Emperor." Two additional drawings from the same series are in the Frankfurt and Darmstadt Printrooms, and an inferior copy of this drawing in the Frankfurt Printroom (Flemish and Belgian Art, Memorial Volume, 1927, p. 187.) Exhibited Flemish Exhibition, Burlington House, 1927, no. 520; and Cinq Siecles d'Art Brusselois, Brussels, 1935. -- Art dealer, connoisseur, and philanthropist Eugene Victor Thaw (1927-2018) was widely considered to be among the world's greatest collectors of European master drawings, French Post-Impressionism, Cubism, and an early advocate of the American Abstract Expressionists. One of the most respected art dealers of his day, he is credited with placing hundreds of major works into museums around the world, and was the founding member and past president of the Art Dealers Association of America.
