Day One: Nov 15 (lots 1001-1358) - Modern/Contemporary Art & Design | African & Oceanic Arts
Featuring Contemporary Art from a Private Collection including sculpture and paintings by Lee Bul, Roxy Paine, Teruya Yeken, and Enrique Martinez Celaya. Other Modern Art highlights include paintings by Stanley Boxer, Hunt Slonem, Alessandro Twombly, and Larry Rivers; and rare editions from Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Chamberlain, Niki de Saint Phalle, Donald Judd, Ellsworth Kelly and Richard Serra. Works from the Estate of SoHo artist Lewis Stein include a selection of Pop readymades, paintings, and large C-prints. Design highlights include an Art Deco secretaire by Rene Herbst, armchairs and table by Ruhlmann, a daybed by Eric Chambert, and works by Eugene Schone, Vladimir Kagan, Donald Deskey and Robsjohn-Gibbings for Saridis. A collection of Herman Miller furniture includes a large George Nelson CSS unit, assorted Thin Edge cabinets, and a pair of Eames loungers. Art deco and modern lighting include a stunning pair of Sabino chandeliers, a Fontana Arte floor lamp, Maison Bagues sconces, and works by Albert Cheuret and Michel Zadounaisky. The day concludes with a collection of hand-built model race cars.
Day Two: Nov 16 (lots 2001-2354) - Asian Arts | American, British Art, Antiques, & Silver
Asian highlights include exceptional Chinese porcelains, jades and bronzes from 885 Park Avenue. 25 scroll paintings spanning the Ming Era to Contemporary come from a private NYC collection. Works of American art include a Mary Cassatt gouache, oils by Antonio Jacobsen and Raphael Soyer, a fine Reginald Marsh watercolor, and a rare early Rockwell Kent woodblock. Fine period British George III and Regency furniture come from several distinguished collections including a desk signed Gillows from 1 Sutton Pl, and a spectacular George III giltwood console with Blue John top from the Breakers, Florida.
Day Three: Continental Art & Antiques | Carpets | Antiquities | Books & Historical Letters | Russian Arts | Garden
Featuring Art Nouveau glass and lighting from the collection of Dr Thomas Chua, including Emil Galle, Daum, and Muller Freres. Sculptures from the collection include works by Jean Lambert-Rucki, Francois Pompon, and Agathon Leonard. Fine Art highlights include an Edouard Vuillard pastel, a Felix Ziem oil, a group of French 15th c. painted Book of Hours manuscript leaves, and Old Masters engravings by Durer, Lucas Cranach, Jacques Callot and Rembrandt. Deaccessioned works benefiting the Newark Museum of Art include signed period Louis XVI furniture and antique continental outdoor statuary and architectural objects. A Fine group of antiquities includes an Egyptian bust of a Lagid Queen, and Roman marble statuary and jewelry. The sale concludes with a group of rare books that includes an early edition of Adam Smith’s “Wealth of Nations”, a selection of 17th c. illustrated atlases, and Civil War autographs, including Abraham Lincoln’s, from the Rosenbach Museum and Library.
