Large lot of historic documents primarily form the 18th century relating to the Easton Pennsylvania area, treaties with the Delaware Indians, and land disputes, [particularly one involving Edward Marshall. Includes 2 hand-drawn maps and approximately 60 documents, most original while some appear to be contemporary copies of earlier ones. Each document, ranging from a small excerpt to a multi-page letter or document, is enclosed in its own cardboard envelope, with an expository label. The envelopes are labeled with the following dates (if there is more than one envelope from a particular year, the quantity is given in parentheses): 1686, 1695, 1700, 1727, 1728, 1732 (2), 1748, 1740 (2), 1741, 1756, 1757 (31), 1758, 1759, 1762 (9), unknown date (3), 1 envelope of newspaper clippings. In addition there are two hand-drawn maps: 1719 - By John Johnson, the Delaware & Susquehannah Rivers and all Lands Between, Giving Locations of Indian Towns and Trails. Map is well-worn with transparent tape repairs to all the folds. 18 1/2 x 26 1/2 inches folded to 7 x 3 3/4 inches. Unknown date but mid 1700s - By Nicholas Scull, the Forks of the Delaware River. Artistically drawn and shaded. 12 x 14 1/2 inches folded to 3 x 7 3/8 inches. Good condition, with one large dark stain not affecting the drawn area.

Hand-drawn and colored land plans for individuals and companies in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, circa 1861, including Newport, Middletown, Falls River, and others. Drawn in color in large ledger book, 10 x 15 inches. Newspaper clippings of published contracts from 1861 glued into first three pages. Leather binding with detached spine and front cover attached by top cord only. Last third of book is blank, but there are at least 100 drawn plans with hand-written notes on facing page. 1778 Letter France's U.S. Minister to British Earl

Autograph letter from Conrad Alexandre Gerard to the Earl of Carlyle, Sir Henry Clinton and William Eden, dated October 30, 1778. Eight pages, 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 inches, bound between hardcovers, with a group of blank pages at the back. Typed transcription of the letter laid in. Gerard was a secretary to France's foreign minister Count de Vergennes, and as such helped to arrange and sign the treaty between the United States and France in February 1778. Subsequently he was stationed in Philadelphia as the French Minister. The letter seems to be an ironic or tongue-in-cheek farewell to the gentlemen who apparently are leaving to return to England, in which the author remarks on the poor chances of continued success for the new United States, and referring to it's Lilliputian navy. The second part of the letter is titled "The Congress Manifesto Translated into Truth" and and starts "These Colonies having been deluded into rebellion...by the arts and falsehood of the ,,, Congress." It closes "Done in Congress, by the order of Monsieur Gerard, the 30th October 1778, Charles Thomson, Secretary."

Adam Styka. Art and Red Propaganda. Carbon copy with original typed title page. New York, 1953. Eight pages, with typed name at end, on 8 1/2 x 13 inches long, light-weight paper. An anti-Communist article portraying the Soviets as destroyers of art, ending with the conclusion that "...it will probably be necessary to appoint a special commission of real American citizens to study the question: Is the Communist art harmful to the human mind and the American way of life?" Styka attaches 14 supporting documents, listed at the end of the letter. Enclosed in original envelope addressed to Madame Huguette Clark with Styka's return address. Adam Styka (1890-1959) was a French-Polish painter, son of French painter Jan Styka. He was a disciple of the Orientalist movement, painting depictions of the American West, exotici foreign motifs, and religious themes.
